Derrick Rose sprains left ankle; ruled out of next game
What's the story?
Derrick Rose, en route to driving to the basket for a layup was fouled hard by Greg Monroe and that resulted in him landing awkwardly on his left ankle. And in the postgame interview, head coach Tyronn Lue said "it doesn't look good" regarding the condition of Rose's ankle.
In case you didn't know..
Rose signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers as a free agent in late July for 1-year $2.1 million dollar contract. What makes matters worse is this isn't the first injury that he has suffered in his legs. During his time with the Chicago Bulls, Rose has already suffered one injury in each knee:
- A torn ACL in his left knee
- A torn MCL in his right knee
The heart of the matter..
Driving to the hole in the third quarter, Rose fouled in what looked like a clothesline by Bucks backup center Greg Monroe. Being pulled at his neck, Rose landed awkwardly on his left ankle and showed signs of pain after he landed.
Although the referees consulted upon the matter, they concluded that the foul was a common foul and not a flagrant. However, the youngest MVP in league history, was in disagreement and had strong words in his postgame interview.
What next?
After defeating the Bucks in Milwaukee, the Cavaliers now travel back home to face the Orlando Magic on the second night of a back-to-back. As mentioned earlier, coach Lue said that Rose's condition didn't look and he is reported to be ruled out of this game.
Author's Take
The Cavs are already taking it slow with Isaiah Thomas and his hip rehab. They should do the same with Rose. He's had a history with injuries on his knees and now this time it's the ankle. It's all obviously connected.
They'll have to grind out wins but Cleveland does have the roster depth to withstand the adversity of another teammate missing time with injury.
