EuroBasket Group Winners: Fan Predictions

The names of the 4 winners from the four groups

While most of the basketball fans are probably rooting for their national team to win the upcoming EuroBasket – even if it’s very unlikely – it’s a different story in the group stage. The 24 teams are divided into 4 groups, so naturally, there are four times as many opinions on the favourites. TonyBet took a glance at what the basketball fans placing their bets think. Here are the results

Group A Winner: France

Basketball fans betting at TonyBet agree unanimously on this one: France is a clear winner in its group. Two years ago the France national team took home their first EuroBasket gold and this time they’re aiming to defend the title. With stars like Tony Parker, Nicolas Batum, Boris Diaw, Rudy Gobert and Evan Fournier, they’re more than ready to conquer group A.

Group B Winner: Spain

Spain is a favourite to win group B, and it’s a pretty obvious choice. Although the team gave up their reign to France last year and will have to make do without Juan Carlos Navarro, Jose Manuel Calderon, Ricky Rubio, Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka, they’re still a force to be reckoned with.

Group C Winner: Croatia/Greece

In Group C, the opinions are more diverse. Both Croatia and Greece are backed by TonyBet players, and it will be a very interesting fight between the two. Croatia is led by their NBA star Bojan Bogdanovic, who plays for the Brooklyn Nets, while Greece is putting their trust in the hands of Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo. Putting everything into consideration group C winner is pretty hard to predict – which, of course, makes it all that more interesting.

Group D Winner: Lithuania

In this group, the favourite is clear once again. Lithuania’s national team took the second place in the last championship, but it’s missing some key players. However, the Raptors’ Jonas Valan?i?nas, the three-pointer ace Art?ras Milaknis and a trustworthy combination of veterans and new players should guarantee a group win.

No Chance for Slovenia

No one seems to be up for backing Slovenia’s triumph in group C. In fact, people are pretty much counting on the team to lose: the amount of bets placed on them not being the #1 in their group is bigger than on the wins of some other group leaders.

All the predictions seem to be stone-cold logical at this point, however, things change quickly in the basketball world. Who‘s to say we‘re not going to see a dark-horse team sweeping its opponents off their feet and maybe even unpredictably winning the EuroBasket against all odds? After all, the defending champion France was only #5 in the 2009 tournament, and to everyone‘s surprise Germany won gold in 1993. The matches start on September 5th, so tune in and support your favourites!
