Fact check: Is there a sour relationship between Scott Foster and Chris Paul?
Scott Foster and Chris Paul have had some serious beef with each other throughout the years. Paul has been around the NBA since 2005 and has only had legitimate problems with one particular league official.
Apparently, in CP's eyes, Foster has always been a thorn in the veteran player's side since the beginning of his playoff runs with the New Orleans Hornets.
There's a conspiracy theory that whenever Scott Foster officiates a game with Chris Paul in it, he will make sure that Paul loses.
The veteran point guard had lost his last 12 playoff games when Foster was part of the referee crew. This has given birth to the theory.
Chris has grown tired of the situation and even went out in public to admit that he has an issue with Scott.
Here's everything you need to know about the sour relationship between Scott Foster and Chris Paul.
Taking a closer look at the relationship between Scott Foster and Chris Paul
The historic beef between Scott Foster and Chris Paul goes all the way back to Paul's first playoff run in 2008.
CP and the New Orleans Hornets successfully made it past the first round against the Dallas Mavericks. Then came the second round, when the San Antonio Spurs ended up beating the Hornets in Game 7. According to sources, Foster was present during the final game of the series.
During the 2020 NBA Playoffs, Paul suited up for the OKC Thunder. His team went up against the Houston Rockets in the first round, wherein the Thunder lost in 7 games. Once again, Scott was present in Chris' Game 7 matchup.
What made this loss suspicious was when Foster reminded Paul about the time he officiated his first Game 7 against the Spurs back in 2008.
Before the second Game 7 incident happened, Chris Paul played for the Houston Rockets for two seasons prior to joining the Thunder. Sources report that Paul has a 0-6 record in the playoffs as a Rocket with Foster as an official.
Fast forward to when the point guard finally joined the Phoenix Suns, Scott ostensibly did Chris dirty once again. This time it was during the 2021 NBA Playoffs. The Suns were matched up against the LA Lakers in the first round. Phoenix ultimately won the series in 6 games, however, one of their losses came in Game 3 when Foster was once again officiating.
While this could all be coincidental, the accusations still do the rounds. The Suns successfully made it all the way to the 2021 NBA Finals. They lost in 6 games but had the opportunity to push it to a Game 7. However, Phoenix' season came to end with a loss with Scott Foster officiating the Game 6 of the Finals that year.
Chris Paul is yet to win a postseason game with Scott Foster as the referee.
