Fans go berserk as Brooklyn Nets score 91 points in 1 half
The Brooklyn Nets just smashed the undermanned Golden State Warriors right out of the gates. They dropped 46 points against Golden State in the first 12 minutes and ended with 91 in the first half, which is a franchise record.
Basketball fans promptly reacted after the the half ended with a 91-51 edge to the Nets:
βITS OVER FOR THE LEAGUE GIVE US THE CHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!β
The Brooklyn Nets are easily the hottest team in the NBA right now. They are on a seven-game winning streak and have won 11 of their last 12 games. Kyrie Irving was on the sidelines watching the rout as Kevin Durant poured in 23 points in the first half.
The Golden State Warriors didnβt have Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson and Donte DiVincenzo. Regardless of who had, Steve Kerr must be fuming at his team. They were run off the floor last night against the New York Knicks and trailed by 38 at one point.
The Brooklyn Nets are starting to look like legit title playoff contenders
After a loss to the Chicago Bulls last November 1, the Brooklyn Nets dropped to 2-6 and fired Steve Nash. They were also in the middle of another scandal following Kyrie Irvingβs post to a book/film with anti-Semitic claims. Brooklyn indefinitely suspended Irving after the loss to the Bulls.
During that stretch, it looked like the Nets would fall to another drama-filled season that could end in another huge disappointment. Remarkably enough, theyβve bounced back better than ever. Irvingβs playing basketball without off-court distractions while the team has rallied around new coach Jacques Vaughn.
Kevin Durant is playing like an MVP and is the biggest reason why the Brooklyn Nets have completely imploded. KD is averaging 30.4 points on a ridiculous 56.5% shooting with every opponentsβ defense totally focused on stopping him.
He has a legitimate chance of winning a second MVP award if he sustains his performance and carries Brooklyn to the postseason.
The Brooklyn Netsβ biggest improvement however has been their defense. They previously couldnβt stop opponents from scoring, ranking at the bottom five of the league in defense. The Nets have slowly crawled their way to the middle of the pack.
Brooklynβs defensive rating is at 110.5 over the last 10 games, which is just a hair better than the ninth-placed Boston Celtics. If they can keep up their defensive performance, they should be a problem in the Eastern Conference.
The Brooklyn Nets still lack size as they rely on Nic Claxton as their main center. Their rebounding has improved, but itβs still a big issue. Theyβre still 29th in rebounding but are now the hottest team in the NBA.
Itβs still December and the league is not even at its halfway point. But if the Nets can significantly improve on their rebounding and maintain everything else, the league better watch out.
