Golden State Warriors' buyout targets 2023: Which players make the best fit for reigning NBA champions?

With the Gary Payton II trade fiasco, the Golden State Warriors' buyout targets will likely be an interesting mix of players.

Why? Because ever since the defending NBA champions traded for Gary Payton II in a four-team trade, there has been controversy over the guard's health, which almost made the deal fall apart. Payton is not completely healthy and will be sidelined for a few months.

The Dubs have been relatively quiet with trades this season, but they have until March 2023 to sign playoff-eligible players.

Golden State Warriors' buyout targets would help them with a playoff push

The Warriors are stuck in the middle of nowhere at the moment. With a 28-28 record, the Dubs are in the ninth spot in the Western Conference and very close to falling out of the playoff picture.

Fortunately for them, there are a couple of players they can acquire in the buyout market. They could use these players to make a strong playoff push.

Patrick Beverley is a defensive-minded guard who was recently waived by the Orlando Magic. The 6-foot-1 guard works hard on both ends of the floor and can also knock down long-range shots.

While Beverley would be a decent replacement for Gary Payton II, John Wall could also be one of the Warriors' buyout targets in 2023. Wall is a 6-foot-3 athletic guard who is a fantastic playmaker.

Considering that Steph Curry is out and that the Warriors don't know when exactly he will be back, the team needs to replace him. However, this is nearly impossible considering how good he is.

While Wall and Beverley could be suitable replacements for Curry, the Warriors should also consider Stanley Johnson. The 26-year-old forward was recently released by the San Antonio Spurs, yet he could play a big role on a contender.

Warriors must sign a new player in the next two weeks

If the Golden State Warriors intend on competing, they will have to sign a new player by March 1. Players signed after this date will not be eligible for the playoff roster, which is why the Dubs don't have a lot of time.

Considering all the injuries the Warriors have had recently, they will have to react quickly to add a new player.
