Golden State Warriors Rumors: Proposed trade has defending champions acquiring DeMar DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls

The Golden State Warriors are still looking to find some consistency a quarter into the season. The defending champions are currently 13-13, which is what one would expect from a team lying 11th in the stacked Western Conference. The latest rumors have proposed acquiring DeMar DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls.

Jack Simone of Heavy Sports suggested a trade between the Warriors and Bulls. Golden State will receive DeRozan, while Chicago will get James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, Donte DiVincenzo, Patrick Baldwin Jr., and a lottery-protected first-round pick.

Simone believes that DeRozan will give Warriors head coach Steve Kerr additional options on offense. Though he may not be an elite 3-point shooter, DeRozan is among the best scorers in the league. He's currently averaging 25.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while shooting 50.3% from the field and 30.3% from beyond the arc.

The problem with DeMar DeRozan is that he's already 33 years old. The Golden State Warriors also won't likely trade most of their young prospects for an aging All-Star. The Warriors already have Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green in their 30s.

Scoring has not been a problem for the defending champions this season. They can't seem to get more out of their bench, with Jordan Poole still struggling with his shot. Donte DiVincenzo's injury affected his rhythm, while Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody failed to make any significant contributions.

Meanwhile, it won't be surprising if the Chicago Bulls make DeRozan available. The Bulls are off to a horrid start to the season and could enter an unexpected rebuild.

Before DeMar DeRozan joined the Chicago Bulls in the summer of 2021, Draymond Green tried to recruit him and sign with the Golden State Warriors.

In an episode of "The Draymond Green Show," Green revealed that he made an effort to convince DeRozan to join Golden State. However, his efforts didn't matter because the five-time All-Star was not interested.

"The conversation turned to 'Come to the Warriors,' and you were like, 'F**k, no. I'm not coming there. I'm not coming to play with y'all,'" Green said.

DeMar DeRozan went on to have the best season of his career last season, while the Golden State Warriors won their fourth championship since 2015. DeRozan told Draymond Green that he felt down following a failed trade to the LA Lakers before signing with the Chicago Bulls.

"I started to question myself, like, 'Where am I going now? What player am I going to be?'" DeRozan said. "Big names usually sign on the first day or two. I went into free agency with such a question mark. Was I going to go somewhere on a one-year deal, was I going to take the minimum?"
