Golden State Warriors title hopes in Kendrick Perkins' funny analogy: “Same amount of hope that me and Barack Obama could have breakfast in morning”

After winning the NBA Finals last year, the Golden State Warriors set out on a mission to go back-to-back like they did in 2017 and 2018. Klay Thompson was healthy, Steph Curry returned to championship form, and the team's young roleplayers rose to the occasion.

As the team returned to training camp, their quest to go back-to-back had officially begun. Before we knew it, the regular season tip-off was right around the corner and things were looking good. However, the infamous Draymond Green-Jordan Poole altercation at practice happened. The Warriors' future was immediately put into question as many questioned what the lasting impact would be.

With Poole expecting a contract extension, and Green with a player option at the end of the season, the future of the Warriors' core was in doubt. The pair put the situation behind them like the professionals that they are, but when the season started, the team looked like a shell of its former self.

Now, with Steph Curry injured, the way Kendrick Perkins sees things, the odds of the team winning back-to-back titles are incredibly low.

"We're talking about the championship, can they compete for a championship. Are they finished when it comes down to a championship? And the answer is h*ll yeah they are. And I have no hope, matter of fact I have the same amount of hope that me and Barrack Obama could have breakfast in the morning. It just ain't happening." - Kendrick Perkins

The Golden State Warriors' chances in a stacked Western Conference

As Perkins went on to explain, the Golden State Warriors are in a tough spot in the Western Conference. Right now, the West is as competitive as ever. We've seen new contenders like the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Orleans Pelicans both fighting for the number one spot in the standings.

At the same time, longtime contenders like the Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors have dropped into the bottom half of the conference standings. Steph Curry suffered a left shoulder injury this week that will sideline him for the next few weeks. With such a loose timeline regarding Curry's return, Perkins isn't feeling too confident.

"The West is too stacked up right now. It's too many teams that I could say that are better than the Golden State Warriors. I'm looking at the Clippers, when they're healthy, and the Kawhi Leonard that we have been seeing of late has turned back the hands of time. I'm looking at the Memphis Grizzlies right now, the way that Ja Morant is playing right now."

As Perkins went on to explain, the Grizzlies nearly pushed the Warriors to their breaking point in the second round of the playoffs last season. At the same time, he questioned whether the Warriors have the depth to truly make a deep playoff run.

What do you think? Will the Golden State Warriors put it all together come playoff time? Or will another contender emerge out of the Western Conference? Give us your thoughts in the comment section below!
