“He’s sitting back in his palatial estate and he’s looking up at 4 finals MVP trophies and 4 championships rings” - Kevin Wildes says nobody would care if Kevin Durant joins Warriors again and wins titles
NBA analyst Kevin Wildes believes that Kevin Durant's potential return to Golden State to win more titles would not bother anyone. Wildes feels that Durant has nothing left to prove and that winning more titles would only elevate his legacy.
Speaking on First Things First, Wildes said:
“He’s sitting back in his palatial estate and he’s looking up at 4 Finals MVP trophies and 4 championship rings, hundreds of millions of dollars and the weather is nice … He’d be totally fine.”
"Nobody would care! The 1932 Yankees had nine Hall of Famers. I'm sure they had a ball, won a bunch of World Series."
Kevin Durant requested a trade from the Nets earlier in the offseason and Golden State have been heavily linked with a move for the superstar forward despite his history with the team.
When Durant first joined the Warriors, he was criticized for surrounding himself with talent in order to win. However, Wildes feels that narrative no longer exists.
"Does anyone talk about LeBron not deserving any of his championships? Here's a quote from July 9th, 2010, from our favorite Bleacher Report (about LeBron going to Miami): 'He's not good enough to win by himself and he needs other superstars to put him over the top.'
"Does anyone feel like that narrative is still around?"
Wildes added that Durant would not care about what people think of him, having achieved so much in his career.
"I don't think he (Kevin Durant) would sit back and say, 'You know what? I feel like Robin... I feel like Robin.' Nobody would care!"
Do Golden State Warriors need Kevin Durant?
The Golden State Warriors proved this year that they can win without Kevin Durant. Steph Curry stepped up to lead the team in the playoffs, earning his first Finals MVP award.
Golden State also has young stars like Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins, who have a bright future ahead of them. There is little reason why they would want Durant back, especially when it could potentially affect team chemistry.
Durant, for his part, has not really pushed for a move to Golden State, with his priorities being Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns. For now, his future remains uncertain.
