How has Mac McClung fared in G-League? Looking at the NBA Dunk contest participant signing two-way contract with Philadelphia 76ers

Just days before he competes in the slam dunk contest, Mac McClung is getting a new NBA contract. Shams Charania of The Athletic recently reported that the 24-year-old is signing a two-way deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers plan to sign guard Mac McClung on two-way NBA contract out of their G League Delaware Blue Coats affiliate, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. On cusp of his Dunk Contest appearance, McClung gets call up to the NBA.

Before signing this new deal, Mac McClung was playing in the G-League for the 76ers' affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. In 19 games this season, he is averaging 19.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists. McClung's most impressive stat this season is connecting on a stellar 50.0% of his three-point attempts while shooting over four shots per game.

In his brief stint with the Blue Coats, McClung had multiple standout performances. The first came in late January when he scored 40 points and hit seven threes in a win over the Wisconsin Herd.

After going undrafted last year, McClung now finds himself on a contending NBA roster. The 6-foot-4 high flier now fills the depth chart behind elite talents like James Harden, Tyrese Maxey and De'Anthony Melton.

During his first season in the NBA, Mac McClung found himself on multiple different rosters. He began the year with the Chicago Bulls but was later cut from there as he made a brief appearance for the LA Lakers at the end of last season.

In his time with the Bulls and Lakers, McClung only took the floor in two games. His debut came on December 29th, 2021, in garbage time. He played a total of two and a half minutes and recorded only two points on one shot attempt.

While with the Lakers, McClung got a chance to have some real playing time. In his one game with the team, he tallied six points, three rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes in a five-point win over the Denver Nuggets.

Like this year, McClung spent most of last season in the G-League. In 27 appearances, he averaged 21.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists.

With his new contract, McClung will still be a member of the Delaware Blue Coats. However, the Philadelphia 76ers will have an allotted number of days where they can have him on the team. After that, they must decide whether to either fully convert his deal or send him back down to the G-League for the remainder of the year.

While it's unlikely that McClung will play much for the 76ers moving forward, it does give the organization a more up-close look at him and his talents.
