How does Shaquille O'Neal's weight compare to some of the greatest centers of all time?
Shaquille O'Neal is one of the biggest NBA superstars the league has ever witnessed.
Standing at 7-foot-1 and a body mass to boot, Shaq was literally a human wrecking ball waiting to wreak havoc on the court. During his time with the Orlando Magic, O'Neal shattered a lot of backboards, forcing the NBA to create "Shaq Proof" rims.
Before Shaquille O'Neal received the nickname "Big Diesel", he was also called "Superman" due to his superhuman displays. Despite being one of the heaviest players on the court, he was still one of the most agile and athletic big men ever. So, how does O'Neal's weight compare to other all-time centers?
#3 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (225 lbs)
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the lightest centers in league history. He only weighed in at 225 lbs, but he became an effective basketball player. He was known for his signature sky hook. It was an unstoppable shot the NBA legend consistently drained throughout his career.
Abdul-Jabbar continues to have the NBA record for most points scored. However, LeBron James will likely beat that mark this season. Abdul-Jabbar has also won six NBA championships, two Finals MVPs and six league MVPs, and has been an All-Star 19 times.
He averaged 24.6 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.6 blocks per game over the course of 20 lengthy seasons.
#2 Wilt Chamberlain (275 lbs)
Wilt Chamberlain set the record for the most points scored (100) in a game. The record hasn't been broken yet and most likely never will be. Chamberlain was a stats padding machine at 7' 0" tall and weighing 275 lbs. He averaged 30.1 points, 22.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists during his career.
Although he didn't win as many championships as was expected, he still holds several NBA records. Chamberlain is a two-time NBA champion, a Finals MVP, a four-time league MVP, a 13-time All-Star and an All-Star Game MVP.
#3 Shaquille O'Neal (324 lbs)
Shaquille O'Neal is the first player that comes to mind when you think of dominance.
He's a seven-foot behemoth, and his physique is ridiculous. He took advantage of the fact that he was over 300 lbs. Shaq would make sure to posterize his opponents and could easily muscle his way into the paint. He was one of the most feared centers in the league.
During his career, O'Neal averaged 23.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.3 blocks per game. Shaq won four NBA championships and three Finals MVP awards and was chosen for 15 All-Star games and won three All-Star MVP awards.
