"I know compound V when I see it"— NBA Twitter reacts as Tyrese Maxey looks jacked in latest press conference
We may be in the NBA offseason, but that hasn't stopped Tyrese Maxey from keeping up with his intense workout routine. If anything, the Philadelphia 76ers guard is putting in extra hours at the gym. In a recent press conference, Maxey showed off his new bulked-up look, and fans were in awe of his stunning transformation.
At 6-foot-3 and approximately 200 pounds, Maxey could have been described as toned or lean last season. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he looked like a different man.
NBA fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to discuss the All-Star's jacked look. There were some hilarious comments.
"I know compound V when I see it," joked one fan.
"Getting son’d by Deuce McBride made him get his weight up lol," said a fan.
"Why am I looking at Maxey in Lamar Jackson’s body," commented another fan.
While some fans were excited about the extra muscle, others seemed to think adding this much mass over such a short period could come back to haunt Maxey.
"Hopefully doesn’t miss up his shot," said one fan.
"Not a good thing," added another fan.
Tyrese Maxey is entering his fifth season in the NBA but really hit his stride last year. The point guard had a breakout season in 2023/24, finishing with career highs in points per game (25.9), rebounds (3.7), assists (6.2), steals (1) and blocks (0.5). He got his first All-Star selection and received the Most Improved Player Award.
Philadelphia 76ers have added depth at the guard position to complement Tyrese Maxey
With Joel Embiid's late-season injury, Tyrese Maxey was a key figure during the final stages of the 2023/24 season. The talented guard guided the Sixers to a 47-35 record and saw them through the play-in tournament. Philadelphia was eventually eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the New York Knicks.
Maxey has qualified for the playoffs in all four of his NBA seasons, but he has failed to even reach the Eastern Conference Finals. The 76ers have brought in some top-tier guards this offseason to ensure Maxey has the support he needs in the backcourt.
Former Miami Heat guard Caleb Martin signed a four-year deal with the 76ers in early July. Veteran shooting guard Eric Gordon will add some much-needed depth to the lineup. Jared McCain was selected by the 76ers in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft. Kyle Lowry and Kelly Oubre Jr. were also re-signed this offseason and will return for another year with the organization.
The 76ers will be desperate to break their championship drought, which has extended to 42 years. With a new-look Tyrese Maxey and a deep roster, we can expect the Sixers to be contenders in the Eastern Conference next season.
