Is Anthony Edwards playing tonight? Exploring All-Star guard’s availability vs Knicks (Oct. 13)
Anthony Edwards is available to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves as they face the New York Knicks on Sunday for their third preseason game ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season.
The All-Star guard was previously listed out for the Timberwolves' preseason opener against the LA Lakers last week. He was listed day-to-day for their second preseason matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday before being cleared to play as they clinched a 121-111 win to extend their preseason record to 2-0.
Edwards recorded 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal in the game while shooting 50% from the field in just under 24 minutes of playtime. The Timberwolves will play three more games, including Sunday's matchup against the Knicks, ahead of the start of the 2024-25 NBA season.
Anthony Edwards eyes NBA MVP honor for the upcoming season
During his interview at the Timberwolves' Media Day earlier this month, Anthony Edwards announced his individual goals for the upcoming season, highlighting that he's aiming for the NBA MVP award.
"Yeah, hell yeah, for sure, no question. And that's [MVP] what I'm going for, man. At this point, ain't nothing else to go for," Edwards said.
Edwards is entering his fifth season in the league and has positioned himself as one of the biggest young talents in the NBA after leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to their first conference finals appearance since 2004 in 2024.
Moving forward, Edwards could have more leeway to take control of the Timberwolves offense following Karl-Anthony Towns' departure to the Knicks in the offseason blockbuster trade.
The upcoming preseason match is highly anticipated as it will be the first time Edwards and the Timberwolves play the Knicks with Towns playing for the opposing team.
