Is Bronny James playing tonight against Cleveland Cavaliers? Lakers rookie's status explored (Oct. 30)
The Lakers will cross swords with the Cleveland Cavaliers in their fifth game of the 2024-25 NBA season, offering LeBron James the opportunity to share the court with his son, Bronny James, at his former home arena. Bronny will be part of the Lakers’ roster for Wednesday’s game against the Cavaliers, though any playing time will be at coach JJ Redick’s discretion.
Fans are eager to see LeBron and Bronny play together in Cleveland, a city where the 20-time All-Star led the Cavaliers to their first NBA championship in 2016. LeBron was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, about 40 miles from Cleveland. Given the significance of the moment for the James family, coach Redick might give Bronny a few minutes on the court, though the rookie will likely spend most of his time on the bench.
After the Lakers’ loss to the Phoenix Suns, LeBron was asked about the significance of potentially sharing the court with his son in Cleveland.
Bronny James in 2024-25 season so far
Bronny James has appeared in only one of the Lakers' first four games this season. During the team’s opening night game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Crypto.com Arena, Bronny shared the court with his father LeBron James, making them the first father-son duo to play together in an official NBA game.
The rookie played just three minutes, missing both of his shot attempts. Since then, coach JJ Redick has opted not to use the former USC guard.
Meanwhile, Bronny is expected to spend most of his time in the G League with the South Bay Lakers after the current six-game road trip concludes.
"The plan for Bronny to move between the Lakers and South Bay has always been the plan since Day One," coach Redick had said earlier. (GM) Rob (Pelinka) and I have talked about that. LeBron’s talked about that."
