Is Bronny James playing tonight against Philadelphia 76ers? Latest on Lakers rookie's status explored (Nov. 8)
The Los Angeles Lakers will face the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, with rookie Bronny James included on the roster. Whether the former USC guard sees playing time will be up to coach JJ Redick, who has thus far only played the rookie in garbage time, except for the season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
On Thursday, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Lakers have assigned LeBron James' son to their NBA G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. Bronny is expected to suit up for South Bay on Saturday after being part of the Lakers’ roster for the game against the Sixers.
"For now, sources said, the G League plan is for Bronny James to play in only South Bay home games – as he shuttles between both leagues and team manages his time on respective rosters," Shams said in a tweet on X (formerly Twitter).
Coach JJ Redick previously stated that Bronny will spend a significant portion of his rookie season in the G League.
"The plan for Bronny to move between the Lakers and South Bay has always been the plan since Day One," Lakers coach Redick had said. (GM) Rob (Pelinka) and I have talked about that. LeBron’s talked about that."

Rookie Bronny James has yet to secure a consistent role or regular minutes as a bench player, instead seeing action only in garbage time when the game’s outcome is already decided.
In the Lakers' 131-114 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, the former USC guard played five minutes and scored two points. Overall, Bronny has appeared in four games for the Lakers, averaging 3.7 minutes and 1.0 point per game.
