Is Joel Embiid playing tonight against Detroit Pistons? Latest on Philadelphia 76ers superstar's availability (Nov. 30)
It has been a rocky start to the 2024-25 NBA season for Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers. Embiid has been sidelined for most of the young season due to injury management with his left knee as the 76ers attempt to weather the storm in his absence.
On Friday, Joel Embiid was ruled out of Philadelphia's matchup versus the Detroit Pistons on Saturday. Not only will Embiid miss Saturday's game with injury management but for personal reasons as well.
The 2022-23 NBA Most Valuable Player is a week removed from a three-game suspension following an altercation with a reporter that resulted in Embiid shoving him.
Along with his altercation with the reporter, Embiid was called out in a team meeting by 76ers All-Star Tyrese Maxey for a lack of punctuality for team activities like practice and meetings.
Embiid is now set to miss his fourth consecutive game on Saturday. He didn't dress for Philadelphia's matchup versus the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 22 and was inactive for the 76ers' last two games as well.
Joel Embiid has appeared in four games for the 76ers this season, averaging 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists on abysmal shooting splits of 37.9/16.7/100. Against the Grizzlies on Nov. 20, scoring 35 points on 10-of-21 shooting and grabbing 11 rebounds, showing shades of himself from last season.
The 76ers are struggling mightily in the absence of Joel Embiid, along with Paul George, who they signed during the offseason. They enter Saturday night's matchup with an abysmal 3-14 record, the second-worst mark in the NBA, behind the Washington Wizards.
Detroit would be no easy task for an injury riddled 76ers squad. The Pistons enter the matchup with a 9-12 record on the season as they look to make a push for the Play-In tournament this season.
Joining Joel Embiid on the injury report for the Detroit matchup is Paul George, Caleb Martin and Kyle Lowry
