Is Kevin Durant playing tonight vs Serbia? Latest update on 3x gold medal winner’s availability
The availability of Kevin Durant continues to loom as a major question mark for Team USA ahead of their 2024 Paris Olympics campaign. Team USA will play their second practice game in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday against reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and Serbia following its victory over Australia on Monday.
Kevin Durant, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, is dealing with a calf injury. According to ESPN senior nalyst Brian Windhorst, Durant missed the game against Australia and practice due to a calf strain and is listed as "day-to-day." So, he's unlikely to be available for the Serbia matchup on Wednesday.
Coach Steve Kerr has downplayed concerns about the injury but has adjusted Kevin Durant's timeline before leading the team through practice.
"I know there's still a couple of weeks before we have to make a decision roster-wise," Kerr said. "So we're just taking it day by day," coach Kerr said.
Durant is a walking bucket, a scorer who can single-handedly change the complexion of a game. His leadership and experience, particularly in high-pressure situations, are also invaluable assets.
The camp was being held from July 7 to 9 in Las Vegas, where Durant suffered a calf strain on the second day of practice and missed a practice session. The Phoenix Suns superstar has been a key figure for Team USA throughout his Olympic career. He is the country's all-time leading Olympic scorer and has three gold medals.
If Kevin Durant wins another gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he will surpass former U.S. teammate Carmelo Anthony and become men's basketball's greatest Olympian.
