Williams attended Northside High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks per game, and was named Arkansas Division I Player of the Year as a junior. As a senior, Williams averaged 18.7 points and 12.2 rebounds and won the Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year (via the Arkansas Razorbacks page).
Williams transitioned into college basketball and played for the University of Arkansas. In his sophomore season, he set multiple records and was recognized with All-Southeastern Conference Honors and averaged 10.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game that year. Subsequent to that, he declared for the NBA draft as he opted to forgo his remaining college eligibility. In the 2022 NBA Draft, the Thunder selected Williams with the 34th overall pick in the second round.
