"North New Jersey native Karl-Anthony Towns names his five favorite Yankees of all-time!" - Talkin' Yanks, X.
While the likes of Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Reggie Jackson, and Bernie Williams had to make the cut, his absolute favorite, to the surprise of many, was former first baseman Mark Teixeira!
While Bernie Williams got him into the love of the Yankees game, it was always Teixeira who was trying to emulate. Towns', a baseball youth player back in the day, played in the same position as Teixeira and recounted how he always strived to be as good as him!
"When I was growing up, the person that really stuck with me, and I love this game and I remember going home and watching him play the position I played, and I always wanted to be as good as him, was Mark Teixeira," Towns was quoted saying.
"First base, switch hitter, could do it all! That's what I was trying to do too, being a switch hitter," he concluded.
Mark Teixeira played fourteen seasons in the majors for the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and New York Yankees.
Primarily with the Yankees, Teixeira went on to become one of the best switch-hitters in the game at the time. His biggest coup was winning the World Series with the Yankees in 2009. He is also a three-time All-Star, five-time Gold Glove Award, the AL home run leader in 2009, and a three-time recipient of the Silver Slugger Award.
Karl-Anthony Towns was spotted wearing a New York Yankees jersey in 2019
Star center for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA, Karl-Anthony Towns was spotted sporting a New York Yankees jersey in 2019 while on a team flight much to the disgust of the Timberwolves X admin (then Twitter) and fans alike.
"There’s a bad apple in every bunch..." - Minnesota Timberwolves, X.
It is no surprise that Towns might root for the Yankees considering he is from the tri-state area, but the general expectation when you join a team is to get on board with their new hometown club.
