Karl-Anthony Towns urges Anthony Edwards to take care better care of his body-" Y'all think it's funny when he's talking about Popeyes and all that s**t, that doesn't make me happy to hear"

The Karl-Anthony Towns-led Minnesota Timberwolves logged their second loss of the 2022-23 season as the Spurs defeated them 115-106.

Devin Vassell scored a team-high 23 points, with six Spurs logging double-digit statlines. Karl-Anthony Towns logged a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds. D'Angelo Russell rallied behind with 25 points, seven assists and five rebounds.

In a postgame interview, when asked how he could mentor Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns answered:

"You know, maybe I can do a better job teaching him how to take care of his body, diet and everything, so that would be on me.
"I know y’all think it’s funny when he’s up here talking about Popeyes and all that s***. That doesn’t make me happy to hear. We're high-level athletes.

He further went on to speak on Edwards' off-night and the brotherly environment around the team:

"He's young, we've been around enough to know that teams like this we gotta put them away and especially if one of our brothers isn't it feeling it that night. We have to pick up the slack.
"I find ourselves, in times of trial and tribulation, we do lean into each other. ... 78 games left, there's going to be many more times we're going to be up here even in a win, even in a loss."

The Minnesota Timberwolves have gotten off to a slow start despite facing teams that are supposed to be in the tanking race to acquire Victor Wembanyama.

They kicked off the season with a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, a game in which Shai-Gilgeous Alexander dropped 32 points.

The Timberwolves countered with six players in their ten-man rotation scoring in double-digits. Rudy Gobert led the way with a monster 23-point, 16-rebound double-double. Gobert had 7 offensive boards in the game.

Following their win, the Timberwolves moved on to lose against the Utah Jazz in a massive upset, dropping the game 126-132.

All the starters had a negative box plus-minus despite three players scoring 20+ points. Gobert again had an absurd rebounding night, tallying 23 boards, 10 of which were offensive.

After securing a win against OKC, the Timberwolves fell to the San Antonio Spurs in another massive upset. The loss included a massive 35-point lead that the Spurs built at the start of the fourth-quarter.

Minnesota ran down the lead, but couldn't manage to erase it completely. All of the Timberwolves' starters once again logged negative box plus-minus scores.

A lack of transition defense was also of note, as the Spurs scored 24 fastbreak points. This was in contrast to the Timberwolves' 14. They also scored 23 points off turnovers as opposed to the Wolves' 20.
