Kidd comes to the Big Apple

If this year’s NBA free agency wasn’t bringing out enough surprises, Jason Kidd delivered another blockbuster. Steve Nash made the big splash yesterday as he decided to join the Lakers after spending best part of a decade with the Suns. Not to be outshone by his veteran competitor and colleague, Jason Kidd spurned the Mavericks and has decided to sign for the New York Knicks. Both teams of New York will be partying now with Brooklyn being able to bag all-star Deron Williams. The Knicks fans will be eagerly anticipating “Kiddsanity” for the coming season.

Kidd will be hoping to deliver a Champioship to the people of New York

In an unanticipated turn of events, Kidd bid adieu to Dallas signing a three-year contract with the Knicks. It was only a few hours back that Kidd was quoted as saying “I’ve always loved playing with Dallas and I’d love to finish my career there”. Dallas’s offseason now looks like a holocaust with Terry and now Kidd’s departure and their failure to rope in either Dwight Howard or Deron Williams.

The financial implications of the deal are still not clear. However, Kidd rejected a 3yr/$9.5 million deal from the Mavs and the contract from the Knicks is expected to be around that figure. The Knicks still hope to match the offersheet for Jeremy Lin that was proposed from the Houston Rockets,Kidd becoming a mentor to the young prodigy. The Knicks will hope that this move will help in bringing leadership qualities to a talented yet oft disjointed team. Kidd will bring his calming influence and Championship winning attitude and caliber to the Knicks organisation.

Kidd, known for his on-court vision is still a very good defender and a threat from 3 point range. Knicks GM Donnie Walsh would hope that Kidd turns out to be the glue guy, the pivot around which the talents of Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudamire and Tyson Chandler would flourish to bring the title to New York.
