Klay Thompson diagnosed with concussion, no timetable yet on his return
Klay Thompson, shooting guard of the Golden State Warriors has been diagnosed with a concussion after he took a knee from Houston Rockets’ Small Forward Trevor Ariza to his head during the fourth quarter of Game 5 in the Western Conference Finals. This is how he got his concussion:
Immediately after the hit he cleared all tests in the locker room during the game, not giving the team’s medical staff enough to call it a concussion. After being cleared by the medical staff, Thompson returned to the floor but was not allowed to check in after there was blood coming out of the cut he suffered. The Warriors celebrated their Western Conference Championship, but bad news rang in as the medical staff reported Thompson suffering from concussion-like symptoms after the game.
“Klay Thompson was evaluated by the Warriors medical staff immediately after suffering an injury during tonight’s game and was put through a concussion evaluation,” the team said. “At the time he did not show any concussion-like symptoms. After the game he began to not feel well and developed concussion-like symptoms. He will continue to be evaluated by the team’s medical staff tonight.”
According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, Klay’s dad Mychal Thompson also had something to say about his son’s status “"He said he just needs a good night's sleep. Threw up and says he feels a lot better,".
This is what Head Coach Steve Kerr had to say about Thompson before he developed the concussion type symptoms:
“He was definitely shaken up. We’ll evaluate him tomorrow. It was a bizarre night for him. Huge first half that really got us going, and then I left him in too long, he got his fourth foul and I thought I’d buy one possession, see if we could get him a shot, and when he picks up his fifth and when I do bring him back, he immediately gets hurt and out for the rest of the night. The break will be good for him. It’ll probably be good for all the guys with the run we’ve been on, but especially for Klay.”
Thompson, a member of the All-NBA Third team cannot return to the court unless he clears protocol set by the league on concussion. So far, there have been no reports of a timetable for his return. It could be a huge blow for the Warriors if he was to miss the NBA Finals which start on June 4th. Here’s the rest of the schedule for the Finals.
