Kobe Bryant passes Michael Jordan on the NBA all time scoring list

Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant during the 2003 All-Star Game

Kobe Bryant needed nine points  to surpass Michael Jordan’s tally of 32,292 points on the NBA’s all-time scoring list as the Los Angeles Lakers entered the Target Center to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night.

Passing the GOAT with his patented fadeaway jump shot would have been the ideal historic moment, but he fouled on a shot attempt. Bryant passed and tied Jordan with free throws. Here’s the historic moment:

Not long after Bryant passed his tally, Jordan had something to say about the achievement:

“I congratulate Kobe on reaching this milestone. He’s obviously a great player, with a strong work ethic and has an equally strong passion for the game of basketball. I’ve enjoyed watching his game evolve over the years, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next.”
