What's the story?

Los Angeles Lakers' legendary retired shooting guard Kobe Bryant will debut in his new basketball analysis show.

In case you didn't know...

Bryant retired from basketball last year after an illustrious career of 20 years with the Lakers. He was recently nominated and then won the Academy Award for his animated short Dear Basketball.

The heart of the matter...

Kobe Bryant is all set to start his own show exclusively on the network’s new direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service called ESPN+.

Giania Thompson of ESPN:

“Detail, which is written, produced and hosted by the Academy Award-winning Bryant, will feature his high-level analysis and insights as he breaks down games throughout the 2018 NBA Playoffs, including the NBA Finals. Bryant will provide in-depth observations from the standpoint of a current NBA player in a game featured on ESPN or ABC,”.

Though full episodes of Detail will be available only on ESPN+, ESPN said that segments of the series will appear on shows such as Get Up!, SportsCenter, The Jump and NBA Countdown. People can subscribe to ESPN+ for $4.99 per month or pay $49.99 upfront to have the service for the entire year.

“Launching April 12, ESPN+ will be an integrated part of a completely redesigned ESPN App. Already the leading sports app, the new ESPN App will be the premier all-in-one digital sports platform for fans and is a showcase of the company’s culture of innovation,” Thompson added.

What's next?

The series will premiere on April 12 and the debut episode will feature the five-time NBA champion breaking down Game 6 of the 2009 Western Conference Finals when the Lakers went on the road to face the Denver Nuggets. The second episode of the ESPN+ series will debut that night following one of the first-round playoff games on April 15.

Author's take

Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest players to have ever played the game and is also one of the most meticulous disciples of the game. It would be a treat to get an insight into how Bryant analyzed the game through this show.
