What's the story?

Kobe Bryant to write, produce and host a basketball show on ESPN named "Detail".

In case you didn't know

Bryant recently had both his jerseys retired (#8 and #24) by the Los Angeles Lakers with a halftime ceremony at the Staples Center when the team faced off against the Golden State Warriors on December 18th, 2017.

Heart of the matter

Bryant has already released a five-minutes 22 second "animated film" of "Dear Basketball", a poem he wrote back in November of 2015 to announce his retirement from the game. Since his retirement, the five-time NBA Champion has been putting in a lot of time into storytelling and making videos with basketball analysis for youngsters. Bryant made the announcement on social media:

In ESPN's press release, the sports firm mentioned: "In Detail, viewers will experience unparalleled game observations from Bryant as if he were one of the players featured in an ESPN game played the day before. As one of this generation’s leading basketball minds, Bryant will provide a perspective aimed at helping young athletes, players and coaches see the game in a different way."

Through numerous interviews since his retirement, Bryant has made it clear that he was interested in storytelling from a very young age and only thought of it when he had to think about life after basketball. That moment came when suffered a torn left Achilles in April of 2013.

Since then, he has taken small but steady steps towards his passion for basketball analysis through storytelling.

What's next?

As per the website's press release, the show will have 15 episodes and will start airing from the second half of the 2017-18 season, concluding with the Finals in June.
