LA Lakers Mock Draft 2024: Projected picks and more
Last season was a disappointing year for the Lakers and they would rather move on from it. They have started it off with the hiring of JJ Redick as the new head coach and the possibility of selecting a promising young piece from this year's draft class. With the opportunity to bounce back from the previous season, LA needs to make sure that proper moves are made in the coming months.
This year, the Lakers have the 17th and 55th pick in the draft. Judging from the 2024 draft pool, there remain some interesting selections from the pool of prospects. However, the team's front office will still need to determine what kind of player profile they are seeking.
To compete for a championship in the upcoming season, a ready-to-go rookie would be the ideal choice.
LA Lakers Mock Draft 2024: Possible selections
#5, Kyshawn George - Miami Hurricanes
Kyshawn George is regarded as one of the most efficient shooters from beyond the arc. However, an underrated part of his game is his ability to see the floor and make timely decisions. With his skill set, he could be a reliable playmaker for the Lakers under the right rotation with the team.
#4, Bronny James - USC Trojans
With the 55th pick, the Lakers could draft LeBron James's son and see what he could offer in the professional league. Bronny improved his stock with an impressive performance at the Draft Combine. He makes up for his inconsistent offense at the defensive end and his decision-making.
#3, Tristan da Silva - Colorado Buffaloes forward
Tristan da Silva is an interesting prospect in this year's draft class. The Colorado forward showcased how far he's come with a standout fourth year. His ability to fill up the stat sheet through his scoring, rebounding and decision-making make him a quality selection for the Lakers.
#2, Jared McCain - Duke Blue Devils
LA has some history of drafting point guards from the likes of Magic Johnson and Lonzo Ball. Here comes Jared McCain from Duke who has excelled as a combo guard with an intent at going strong to the basket. Despite only being listed at six-foot-two, McCain is a reliable rebounder at the rim.
#1, Zach Edey - Purdue Boilermakers
Zach Edey had one of the best individual performances and is ready to make his mark in the NBA. He is projected as a top 20 pick in the draft and the Lakers could make some noise by landing him. With the purple and gold franchise being in a win-now scenario given the timeframe of LeBron James's tenure, Edey could provide quality production for them at the center position.
He is a walking double-double machine that could solve some of the team's problems at the backup center spot. His offensive game could still some tuning out but he has some commendable moves at the post and his rebounding capability is no joke.
