LeBron James mocks Phil Jackson AGAIN
What's the story?
Even though Phil Jackson is no longer with the New York Knicks organization, it isn't stopping LeBron James from throwing barbs his way. James would make another comment Jackson's way after his Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Knicks 104-101 on Monday night.
In case you didn't know...
After the 2017 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks decided to part ways with Phil Jackson as an executive with the team. During his tenure, the Knicks didn't make the playoffs. In 2015, the Knicks set a team record with 13 straight losses, and they finished in last place in the Eastern Conference that year with a 17-65 record.
The heart of the matter...
The Score reported on the interview that LeBron James had with James Herbert of CBS Sports following the game. This would be where he'd throw his jab at Phil Jackson with the following quote:
"They're playing some good basketball. I think Jeff - the coach, Jeff Hornacek - is finally, with the release of the old fella, is finally allowed to implement what he wants to do on the team. And it's showing it's very effective"
James took a shot at Jackson earlier in the week by not drafting Dallas Mavericks guard Dennis Smith, Jr. In those comments, James said that Smith basically should have been a Knick, but he wanted to make sure that it wasn't a shot at rookie Frank Ntilikina (pick #8) who the Knicks took one pick ahead of Smith (pick #9) in the 2017 NBA Draft.
What's next?
The Cleveland Cavaliers (7-7) travel to Charlotte to take on the Hornets (5-7) on Wednesday evening. The game will air live on ESPN at 8:00 PM eastern.
Author's take...
Though I know LeBron loves to have fun, he should probably not take shots at anyone when his own team is struggling. Through 14 games they're only 7-7, and that is with winning three of the past four games. One thing we can all agree on, Phil Jackson was a colossal failure in New York.
