Make a Kevin Durant trade, you can't waste Steph Curry's greatness: Stephen A. Smith suggests bold trade to Golden State Warriors
The Kevin Durant trade saga was the biggest topic of the NBA offseason, and rumors are starting to heat up again. With the Brooklyn Nets sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, many are waiting for the two-time MVP to ask out again.
KD agreed to return to the Nets this season, and things quickly went off the rails. Steve Nash was fired after 10 games, Ben Simmons has been greatly underwhelming, and Kyrie Irving has been suspended by the team. Once again, the former MVP has been left to carry a roster full of role players.
On a recent episode of ESPN's "First Take," Stephen A. Smith touched on teams that should try to execute a Kevin Durant trade. He feels the All-Star forward should reunite with his former team in the Golden State Warriors.
"If you no longer believe in some of those young guys, go ahead and make the trade for Kevin Durant," Smith said. "You can't waste, you cannot waste Steph Curry playing like this. You can't take this for granted."
Durant has played in 15 games and is averaging 30.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists.
Brooklyn (6-9) is 12th in the Eastern Conference.
Does a Kevin Durant trade make sense for the Golden State Warriors?
Heading into this season, the Golden State Warriors tried to operate on two timelines. While defending their championship, they also tried to continue developing their batch of young talent.
So far, operating on two timelines has not been successful. Golden State also sits at 6-9, landing them in 12th place in the Western Conference.
As Smith mentioned, Steph Curry is off to an incredible start, averaging 31.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg and 6.4 apg. The two-time MVP is still playing at a high level, but the cast around him has been lackluster.
At this point, a Kevin Durant trade makes a lot of sense for the Warriors. He has proven that he can thrive in their system, and they have the young assets to entice the Brooklyn Nets in a deal.
Durant and Curry are still two of the top players in the league, but find themselves on struggling rosters. Reuniting the two stars would put them in a good position to add another championship to their resumes.
The Warriors' window is closing, and they need to do something. Going all in on this incredible Curry season could allow the dynasty to walk away on a high note.
