Memphis Grizzlies vs Dallas Mavericks: Preview, odds and prediction | October 7, 2024
The Memphis Grizzlies vs Dallas Mavericks matchup is one of the five NBA preseason games scheduled for Monday. Both teams are in for key seasons but for totally different reasons.
The Grizzlies finished 27-55 in 2023-24 because of a combination of key injuries and Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension to start the season. Memphis, which has one of the best young rosters in the league, finished a lowly 13th in the West.
The Mavericks, on the other hand, reached the NBA finals, where they lost 4-1 to the Boston Celtics. The one-sided series proved that despite reaching the finals, the Mavs needed a far better team to be competitive. Dallas has tried to address some of those needs in the offseason but it remains to be seen if they help.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Dallas Mavericks preview
This will be the first of five preseason games for Memphis. With a key season ahead, this should be the perfect test for the young squad. When healthy, the Grizzlies have proven to be one of the best teams in the league. If Ja Morant can stay injury-free, Memphis should improve in leaps and bounds from last season.
The Mavs finished last season with a disappointing finals loss to Boston. However, they should be happy with the progress they made by winning the West. The pairing of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving proved to be a success, and with Klay Thompson now in the mix as well, things are looking up for the Mavericks. This will be their first preseason game of the season.
Memphis Grizzlies vs Dallas Mavericks predicted starting lineups
The Grizzlies should be able to field all their regular starters other than just Jaren Jackson Jr., who is dealing with a low-grade hamstring strain. With an otherwise healthy roster, Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins should start:
PG: Ja Morant SG: Marcus Smart SF: Desmond Bane PF: Santi Aldama C: Zach Edey
Luka Doncic has been ruled out of the game with a calf injury. Kyrie Irving is unlikely to play as well, as he heals from a surgically repaired left hand. Dallas coach Jason Kidd should start:
