Miami Heat: On mission three-peat
Barring the first season the big three of LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade came together, the Miami Heat have been the most dynamic and dangerous team the league has to offer. Within the first year we saw the potential of greatness they possessed and they have since become an almost unstoppable force.
Last season, they had one of their most memorable outings of all-time and they left their mark in the books with the second longest win streak in league’s history. Basketball fans world-over (whether they admit it or not) would have not foreseen the shot this group had at achieving the promises made by Lebron, who said they will be number one and win multiple championships together.
Talent will get your foot though the door but it takes determination, leadership and most importantly, team work to win a championship. Miami Heat happens to have the strongest core at the moment and they have a leader in Lebron, who can literally do everything on the court while making his teammates better.
With two championships in a row, the only thing that stops the Heat from becoming a legacy is a three-peat.
Miami is full of veterans who have already had their shine and success. A decade or more in the league can lead to personal fatigue and a lack of hunger, which consists of sacrificing your body and time to be the best you can be to win it all.
This upcoming season, they’re going to have to work even harder than they have the past three years as other contenders are vying for their spot. Players from different organisations are coming together to create their own “super” team to beat the Heat.
A very positive attribute to the Heat organisation is their front office, as they have acquired key pieces every single year since the big three was assembled. Chris Anderson played a crucial role in their 2013 playoff run while Ray Allen’s clutch shot single-handedly saved their season.
But that has not stopped them from adding more muscle as they recently signed former number one draft pick Greg Oden, whose potential is through the roof when healthy. The Heat knew they were short on bigs, and in Oden they may have taken a gamble but one which could very well prove fruitful.
Lebron will have to show his leadership through his work ethic (which usually exceeds expectations) next season in order for his squad to follow and chase that elusive third ring. Lebron has made it quite clear that he isn’t satisfied with just two rings as he wants to be remembered as one of the greats.
The opportunity he has at the moment makes it very possible for him to achieve. The key to Miami Heat’s success and road to a three-peat will all come down to Lebron James. At 28, he is in his prime and will only improve; this makes him a very scary force to opposing teams. The three-peat seems well on the cards.
