Miami Heat vs Charlotte Hornets predicted starting lineups and depth charts | 2024 NBA preseason (Oct. 8)
The Miami Heat open their preseason preparation with a matchup against the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday. Jimmy Butler will lead Erik Spoelstra’s team versus a revamped squad now led by first-time coach Charles Lee. Miami rookie Kel’el Ware, the No. 15 pick in this year’s draft, will debut for the Heat.
Meanwhile, Lee will count on a young team headed by LaMelo Ball and emerging star Brandon Miller. The Hornets lost to the New York Knicks 111-109 on Sunday, so they will be raring to bounce back against their visitors.

Miami Heat vs. Charlotte Hornets: Key matchups
Terry Rozier vs. LaMelo Ball
Terry Rozier and LaMelo Ball were the Hornets’ starting guards for over three seasons until Rozier was traded to the Heat in February. On Tuesday, they will line up across from each other. Ball, who has been battling ankle issues over the last two seasons, looks to bounce back strong starting with a matchup against his former teammate.
Jimmy Butler vs. Brandon Miller
Jimmy Butler, Miami’s veteran, will square off against Brandon Miller, Charlotte’s emerging star. Butler, who injured his MCL in the play-in game against the Philadelphia 76ers, is healthy now. He trained hard in the offseason so he should be raring to test his readiness for the 2024-25 campaign.
When Ball went down with an injury and Rozier was traded, Miller became the Hornets’ No. 1 option on offense. He will test Butler on both ends when they go against each other.
Kel’el Ware vs. Mark Williams or Nick Richards
Kel’el Ware had a solid Summer League campaign but will be tested more in the preseason. Ware will go up against Mark Williams or Nick Richards, Charlotte’s promising centers. All three are excellent shot blockers and athletes so it should be an exciting battle.
