NBA 2018/19: The Lakers should sign Trevor Ariza

Trevor Ariza was regarded as an important member of the Houston Rockets last season, although the franchise believed that they would be fine without him, and let him walk away from the team over the summer. The Rockets failed to sign another two-way player to replace Ariza, and the 33-year-old's departure has had a detrimental effect on the Rockets.

With Ariza in the starting five last season, the Rockets had the best regular season record in the entire NBA, although this season, the team currently have a win ratio of under .500, and sit outside the playoff places.

Ariza has continued to play well for his new team the Phoenix Suns, although the player is reportedly available for trade due to the team's current struggles. With the Lakers looking to add a star next to LeBron James, Ariza could be a perfect fit, at least until the end of the season.

The small forward has averaged 34.5 minutes, 9.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game so far this season, and despite being 33, Ariza has continued to demonstrate his quality at both ends of the court.

The player even had a spell with the franchise back in the 08/09 season, featuring 23 times in the playoffs as the Lakers won the NBA Finals against the Orlando Magic.

If the Lakers are able to get rid of the likes of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Michael Beasley, the team would have no problems in taking on Ariza's huge $15 million salary.

There is also the possibility that the Lakers will wait until the new year, as the Suns and Ariza may agree on a buyout.

Either way, Ariza's experience, and ability could be vital if the Lakers want to make a serious playoff run in 2019.
