NBA 2K14: Skills explained

Everyone knows the 2K’s NBA 2K14, gameplay differs from other sporting games. Albeit all this detailing could be tiring to pick up but once you can, there is a plethora of skill that are attributed to different players and executed in the game, all with their own benefits. Here is a list of all the signature moves that a player can have in both offense and defense, along with an explanation and a prime example of a player with that skill

Allan Iverson

Offence

  1. Sprite Posterizer

When attacking the rim, players have a greater chance of triggering a "contact dunk" with their player instead of a "contact layup". Posterizer dunks can only be performed when the player has at least 80% stamina. If the posterizer dunk is successful, it gives every on-court teammate a 5% boost to his stamina.

Example: DeMar DeRozan.

  1. Highlight Film

The player's dunk will not be any ordinary dunk but will frequently involve fancy windmills and body spins instead of simple one-handed or two-handed slams. To do this, it requires at least 80% stamina. If successful, it will boost each on-court teammate's stamina by 5%.

  1. Finisher

With this skill, the shot penalty for absorbing body contact during a shot attempt is reduced by 10% is perfect for players who skilled at finishing with contact. The story usually goes like foul, shot counted and one free throw to seal it off.

       2.  Acrobat

What this skill does is that it allows players to change their lay-up, switch hands and change body positions in mid-air after already getting into the lay-up and only allow the shot penalty for changing the shot in mid-air to reduce by 10%. The player also receives a five-point attribute boost to his hop, spin, and euro layup ratings.

  1. Catch and Shoot

Playing off the ball is just as important as playing with the ball and for such player this skill is extremely important and helpful. The penalty for early or late shot timing is decreased by 15% whenever the player takes a shot from a distance of at least 12 feet as soon as he collects a pass.

  1. Shot Creator

This is a pretty realistic skill. If a player has created space with a skill move or is attempting a fadeaway/spin jumper and attempts a shot off the dribble, their chances of conversion increase. In real life after fooling your opponent and getting through him, a person usually gets a rush of adrenaline which lets you shoot better.

  1. Deadeye

This type of shooter is less affected by late arriving defenders than most, which means that the player must be guarded at the beginning of the shot and guarded a little closer upon the release of the shot to increase chances of conversion. The contested shot penalty that is enforced at the beginning of a shot is reduced by 40%.

  1. Corner Specialist

As the name goes, it’s easy to understand. For players with this skill, if the shooter is standing still and is left open for a three-pointer from the corner, the shot's chance of going in increases by 2%.

  1. Post Proficiency

This is for players who are extremely talented in the low post. These players have a better chance of a post move making the defender fall for their fakes and their shots go down with a greater propensity in the block. The chance of a shot conversion increases by 10%. All post shots are 2% more likely to go in.

  1. Post Playmaker

Passing from a post-up position will eliminate the chance of an off-target pass and will add a 4% chance of the shot going in if it will count as an assist. Basically when a player with this skill passes the ball, it’s hardly a miss and the recipient of the pass is more likely to put the ball in.

  1. Brick Wall

This too is pretty self-explanatory. This skill is a tough nut to crack. Defenders are either knocked down to the ground or forced to work harder to get around the player's screens.

  1. Screen Outlet

With this skill, if a player takes a shot immediately after setting a screen, he will receive a four-point boost to his shooting attribute.

  1. Pick & Roll Maestro

In this skill, the ball handler receives improves his shooting if he takes a shot immediately after dribbling off a ball screen. Also, any pass to the screener will give an unspecified accuracy boost.

  1. Dimer

With this skill, all passes, aside from alley-oops and passes thrown from a post-up position, will be accurate and will also raise the chances of the recipient scoring the basket if the pass will count as an assist.

  1. Alley-Ooper

Players with this skill lob the ball tactfully and set up beautiful, well-timed alley-oops

  1. Flashy Passer

These players tear up the court with their fancy, elaborate passes which all usually accurate thanks to this skill.

  1. One Man Fastbreak

Using this skill, the player receives a boost to his speed, quickness and ball handling attributes when dribbling the ball quickly from one end of the court to the other after possession changes hand.

Example: LeBron James

  1. Break Starter

These are the players that usually start a fast break. These players, after collecting a defensive rebound, can give the next pass accurately and quickly, without fear of it being off target.

Example: Dwight Howard

  1. Hustle Points

With this skill players can collect an offensive rebound, and then boost up their close shot, standing layup, and driving layup ratings for a little while.

Defense

  1. Lockdown Defender

One of the most powerful skills, the player will automatically disable all the offensive signature skills of whomever he is guarding, truly nullifying his opponent.

Example: Andre Iguodala

  1. Pick Pocket

This is another important skill which increases the probability of a player to steal the ball, when the opposition ball handler is attempting a dribble move.

Examples: Rajon Rondo.

  1. Interceptor

It gives a boost to the player's steal attribute whenever he attempting to intercept or deflect an airborne pass.

Example: Shane Battier

  1. Active Hands

With this skill a player can stop or knock the ball whenever the opposition ball handler is attempting a shot or layup.

Example: Joakim Noah

  1. Charge Card

It increases the chances of a player to draw charges when coming in contact. The decisions usually go with the player. All of his on-court teammates will receive a 5% stamina boost if the charge is successfully drawn.

  1. Pick Dodger

Players with this skill are immune to the effects of brick wall screens and will frequently overpower weaker screeners.

  1. Eraser

The monsta blockas. These boys with their huge usually execute successful shot blocks which will raise all on-court teammates' stamina by 5% and reduce the shooting attributes of the player who got blocked for some time

  1. Chasedown Artist

Players, with this skill can defend fast breaks with tact and determination when, during a fast break, the defender receives a boost to his speed and quickness, as well as a 60% increase to the probability of blocking any layup or dunk attempts.

  1. Bruiser

Ouch! This one hurts! All players that come in contact with such skilled players get their stamina drained and they try and fight it out with these big guys

  1. Scrapper

This skill helps players collect loose balls as the player receives a boost in speed and quickness, plus being able to dive 10% further than other players.

Example: Chuck Hayes

  1. Tenacious Rebounder

With this skill, the player is 30% more likely to win box out battles and poke the ball loose during rebounds.
