NBA Action Highlights - 29 January

All an NBA fan wants – a recap of the day’s action with video highlights. There was a time when we would have to scamper to catch a few seconds of action on Sportscenter daily, before the Internet came along. Now we have it all. Enjoy!

Golden State Warriors 114 – Toronto Raptors 102

David Lee had 21 points and 12 rebounds, Stephen Curry scored 17 points before leaving with an injury to his right ankle after landing on the foot of a Raptor while going for a layup. The Warriors are calling it a mild sprain. Hopefully it is mild. Andrew Bogut was playing for the first time since November 7th. The Warriors have been killing it even without Bogut with guys like Carl Landry stepping up. With Bogut at full strength, there’s no reason why the Golden State Warriors cannot be considered as legitimate contenders. They are the only team in the NBA to have defeated the Heat, Thunder and Clippers this season. The Warriors beat the Toronto Raptors 114-102.

Memphis Grizzlies 103 – Philadelphia 76ers 100

Rudy Gay scored 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Marc Gasol swatted away the three from the Sixers which could have tied it and the Grizzlies won this one 103-100. The Sixers were trying to win two straight games for the first time in two months. Playing without Bynum they aren’t contenders by any stretch and they lost this one too. Marc Gasol hit his first three of the season today. He finished with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

Sacramento Kings 96 – Washington Wizards 94

Isaiah Thomas hit the game winner in this one on Garrett Temple. Thomas drove in to the middle of the lane to put in a left-handed floater with 1 second remaining, giving the Sacramento Kings a 96-94 win over the Washington Wizards. John Wall had 19 points and 6 assists in this one for the Wizards whose home winning streak was stopped by the Kings at 5.

Brooklyn Nets 97 –Orlando Magic 77

JJ Redick was coming off a career high 31 point performance vs the Pistons. He is someone who is highly coveted in the trade market. But he only shot 2-13 for 5 points. The Nets are playing with a chip on their shoulder as none of them were voted in the all star game reserves by the coaches. They feel that this slight is because the Nets players ‘quit’ on Avery Johnson and other coaches are punishing them for it. With Rondo’s season-ending ACL injury, the door is open for Deron Williams to be nominated by the commissioner though. And he’s making the push. Deron Williams had 20 points and nine assists, and the Nets beat the Magic 97-77. Funny moment when Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis caught Gerald ‘Crash’ Wallace as he made a layup and prevented him from crashing. Baby catches Crash. It happens only in NBA.

Chicago Bulls 93 – Charlotte Bobcats 85

No one foresaw the Chicago Bulls doing this. Without Derrick Rose, they were written off from making the postseason by many. No one foresaw Nate Robinson either, the tiny guard had a career high 3 blocks and he’s only 5 foot 9. Jimmy Butler scored a career-high 19 points and had a dunk where he stuck his tongue out a la Jordan. Nate Robinson added 15 as the Chicago Bulls beat the Charlotte Bobcats 93-85. Carlos Boozer had the jam of the night though. Just watch.

Denver Nuggets 102 –Indiana Pacers 101

The Nuggets came in having won nine of their last eleven games. This was a close contest. Andre Iguodala made a free throw with 0.4 seconds remaining after forcing a turnover to deny a last-second shot by Indiana, and Denver won 102-101.

Houston Rockets 125 –Utah Jazz 80

The Jazz came in having won six games in a row and went out with their tail between their legs. The Houston Rockets gave the Utah Jazz the most lopsided home loss in franchise history. 92-57 was the score, at the end of the third quarter. Final score was 125-80. James Harden had 25 for the Rockets and Omer Asik added 19 rebounds for them.
