NBA: Arron Afflalo traded to Denver from Orlando in exchange for Evan Fournier and a 2014 pick

Arron Afflalo

Although the trade has not officially been announced, sources report that the Denver Nuggets have agreed to a trade with the Orlando Magic which sees Arron Afflalo being traded to Denver in return for point guard Evan Fournier and the 56th pick in the 2014 Draft.

For Magic, this would be their third pick is this year’s draft as they already held the No. 4 and No. 12 picks prior to the trade. The trade also allows them to receive some sort of reinforcements in place of Afflalo rather than losing him for nothing to free agency next summer. Fournier, a former first round pick in 2011, saw his playing time receive a big push in the second half of this past season when Andre Miller was traded to the Washington Wizards and Nate Robinson suffered a knee injury.

Averaging 8.4 points and 1.5 assists for this past season, Fournier, a young guard looking to make a mark, would be a great player off the bench for the Magic’s Jameer Nelson.

Meanwhile for the Nuggets, despite trading away a pick they still hold two close to their chest in this year’s draft, with the No. 11 and a second rounder (41st overall). This trade also means the return of Afflalo to Denvier, a player who was with the franchise for three years from 2009 to 2012 before being traded to the Magic as part of the four team Dwight Howard in the summer of 2012.

Afflalo, who was coming off a career season averaging 18.2 points this season, has been acquired by the Denver franchise using a trade exception.
