NBA Playoffs 2016: Thunder halt Spurs to book Western Conference finals date with Warriors
Oklahoma City Thunder pulled off a decisive victory against the San Antonio Spurs, beating them 113-99 in Oklahoma City today. After four consecutive close games in a row, today Thunder took apart the Spurs from early on in the game, and had a 55-31 lead by the end of the first half.
The Spurs attempted to scramble back in the final quarter to save some face as they scrambled up to a 14-point loss, but in the end Oklahoma City Thunder were simply too strong.
A strong defence took Thunder to their significant lead, with Spurs’ offense simply unable to keep up.
Thunder stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook starred once again in their team’s victory, Durant leading the scoring with 37 points and 9 rebounds, and Westbrook not far behind with 28 points and 12 assists.
The Thunder will now play the extremely strong Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference finals on Monday; the Warriors took two back-to-back victories over the Portland Trail Blazers, with the first going into overtime, while the second was also a close victory.
Meanwhile, Warriors’ star and NBA great Steph Curry, the reigning NBA MPV, won the award for a second time last week, taking a principal role in his team’s overtime victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.
