NBA Trade Rumors: Blake Griffin staying with the Detroit Pistons
What's the rumor?
Blake Griffin has finally been able to put aside his injury issues and the power forward is currently playing his best basketball in years. However, despite Blake's individual performances, the Pistons have collectively endured a disappointing season and reports have suggested that Griffin could demand a trade before the deadline. Nevertheless, Griffin has addressed the speculation regarding his future, telling the Detroit News that he wants to stay in Detroit:
Myself or my agent or my people haven’t said anything. I heard that (rumor) buzzing around a little bit, but you have to consider the source on some of those things. I am happy here and, of course, I’m frustrated. You should be frustrated if you’re not frustrated, what are you doing playing basketball? Like Tom (Pistons owner), I still believe in this team and we can turn this around and rattle off a couple wins.
In case you didn't know...
Up until last season, Griffin had spent his entire career with the LA Clippers. The 29-year-old had even signed a five-year, $173 million contract extension with the team in 2017, however, Griffin was traded to the Pistons in a surprise deal just six months later.
Many viewed the deal to offload Griffin's contract as a major win for the Los Angeles team, however, Griffin has since managed to overcome his injury issues, and so far this season, the 5-time All-Star is averaging an impressive 26.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.
The heart of the matter
Griffin seems content with his current situation in Detroit, and even if the Pistons wanted to trade him away, there wouldn't be many takers to take on Griffin's huge contract. Due to this, Griffin looks certain to stay in Detroit, and after a four-year absence, the power forward could also make a return to the All-Star game next month.
What's next?
The Pistons will be looking to get their stumbling playoff push back on track as they take on the Dallas Mavericks this evening.
