NBA Trade Rumors: Celtics hold an advantage over Lakers in the race to sign Anthony Davis
What's the rumor?
The future of Anthony Davis is still dominating the talk of the NBA, as the Pelicans man continues to be linked with a trade to both the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. In light of this, a new report from Sports Illustrated is suggesting that the Celtics currently lead the race to sign the All-Star, due to their ability to put together a better trade package than the Lakers:
The Lakers’ biggest rival in a potential Davis deal is likely their longtime cross-country foe, headed by Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens. Los Angeles’ collection of assets can’t match Boston unless Jayson Tatum is declared untouchable, and even then, perhaps a combination of picks, Jaylen Brown, Terry Rozier and others would vault the Celtics over the top. It would help Boston if Brown regains any semblance of success from beyond the arc.
In case you didn't know...
Anthony Davis has spent his entire career with the New Orleans Pelicans, after being drafted by the team back in 2012. The 25-year-old is a five-time NBA All-Star and he has been one of the most dominant forces in the NBA over the last few years.
So far this season, Davis is averaging 28.7 points, 13.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game, and he is firmly in the race to win his first MVP award. The centre is currently under contract with the franchise for two more seasons, although he has a player option for the 2020-21 season.
The heart of the matter
The New Orleans Pelicans have once again struggled this season (19-22), and Davis has continually stated his desire to win an NBA Championship. Ultimately, both the Celtics and Lakers would offer Davis a platform to win, and a summer move looks increasingly likely.
What's Next?
The Pelicans will be looking to win a third consecutive game as they take on the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers tomorrow night.
