NBA Trade Rumors: Charlotte Hornets could trade for two-time All-Star center

What's the rumor?

After letting Kemba Walker walk during free agency, the Charlotte Hornets currently lack star power, and according to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, the organization could make a move for Andre Drummond.

Pistons big man Andre Drummond is a player in whom the Hornets have had an interest for at least a year. They could take advantage of the Pistons’ disappointing 4-10 start to press for a Drummond deal. Detroit has not yet considered moving Drummond this season—they have had trade discussions about him in the past.

In case you didn't know...

Drummond has spent his entire career with the Detroit Pistons, and the 26-year-old is among the most dominant big men in the NBA. Throughout his seven years in the career, Drummond has averaged 14.1 points and 13.7 rebounds - and the New York native has led the league in rebounding in three of the past four seasons.

Drummond's impact at both ends of the court was enough to see him named an All-Star in both 2016 and 2018, and despite Detroit's slow start to the season, the center has managed to average career highs in points (18.6) and rebounds (16.8).

The heart of the matter

The Hornets need to make a big move if they are to get back in contention in the Eastern Conference, and Drummond would be a huge upgrade over their current options.

Meanwhile, the Pistons face an uphill battle to make the playoffs this season, and it makes sense to trade Drummond rather than lose him for nothing next summer.

Ultimately, a deal is unlikely in the next few weeks, although something could come together ahead of the trade deadline.

What's next?

The Pistons will be looking to end their five-game losing streak when they take on the Atlanta Hawks tonight. Meanwhile, the Hornets will face the Washington Wizards.
