NBA Trade Rumors: Dallas Mavericks could trade for Dennis Schroder
What's the rumor?
After making a 12-6 start to the season, the Dallas Mavericks appear to be contenders in the Western Conference, and the team has plenty of cap space that could be used to improve the roster.
In regards to players that the Mavs could sign in the coming weeks, Sean Deveney of Heavy.com believes that Dennis Schroder could be a target.
According to Deveney, the limited assets the Mavs possess means a blockbuster trade is out of the question. However, Schroder presents a much more reasonable option Dallas could target.
In case you didn't know...
Schroder joined the Thunder as part of the trade for Carmelo Anthony back in 2018. In his first season in Oklahoma City, Schoder served as a backup for Russell Westbrook, and he has once again been made to settle for a place on the bench due to OKC's determination to develop Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Nevertheless, he has managed to impress and over 18 appearances so far this season, Schroder has averaged 15.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in 29.0 minutes.
The heart of the matter
The point guard position remains somewhat of a weakness for the Mavs, and Schroder would offer the team a dynamic playmaker that can make an impact as either a starter or reserve.
The Thunder are also believed to be eager to offload the final 18 months of Schroder's contract, so the Mavs shouldn't have to give up too much for the German.
What's next?
The Mavs will be in action later today as they attempt to end the Los Angeles Lakers' 10-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Thunder will be looking to pick up their eighth win of the season as they take on the New Orleans Pelicans.
