NBA Trade Rumors: JJ Redick expected to attract plenty of trade interest in coming weeks

What's the rumor?

During the 2019 offseason, the New Orleans Pelicans signed JJ Redick to a two-year, $26.5 million contract. At the time, the Pelicans believed that they could contend for a playoff spot, although they have started the season with a disappointing 6-12 record.

As one of the NBA's best shooters from three-point range, Redick has been linked with a trade to a contending team, and Dan Favale of Bleacher Report believes that the 35-year-old will attract plenty of interest from around the league:

Redick will be a popular trade target once we reach mid-December. Some team will fork over a first-rounder and more for his services. His offense is a universal fit and thus timeline-proof and the Pelicans - along with every other team - could use him if they're planning to make a postseason push next year.

In case you didn't know...

Following four years at Duke, Redick was selected with the 11th pick in the 2006 draft by the Orlando Magic. Redick remained with the Magic until 2013, and he has since spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks, LA Clippers and most recently, the Philadelphia 76ers.

Redick produced some of the best numbers from his lengthy career during his two-year spell with the Sixers and so far this season, the shooting guard is averaging 15.3 points on 48% shooting from three-point range.

The heart of the matter

Redick's experience and ability to shoot the three will attract plenty of interest, and it is doubtful that New Orleans can get back into the playoff mix this season. Due to this, the Pelicans may be open to dealing him as we get closer to the trade deadline, although they are likely to demand a future first-round pick and a promising young player in return.

What's next?

The Pelicans will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers when they face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night.
