Kristaps Porzingis will become a restricted free agent this summer, and the New York Knicks player continues to be linked with a summer move away from the struggling franchise Despite this, the Knicks still in a strong position to keep their star man, as the organization is able to match any offer for their 2015 draft pick. This means that Porzingis is only likely to leave in the result of issues emergings between himself and the Knicks organization.

ESPN's 'First Take' analysts were today discussing the Latvian's future in New York, and when Max Kellerman was asked if the Knicks should match any contract offers for Porzingis, Kellerman was scathing in his response:

I don't think that Porzingis should be consigned to this fate for the rest of his career. I mean, they're going to ruin his career... They will almost certainly ruin Kristaps Porzingis.

The Knicks have failed to make the playoffs for more than a half a decade, and the team has made a dismal 10-30 start to the 18/19 NBA season. Due to this, Kellerman went on to claim that Porzingis would benefit from playing under Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs:

'You not what Popovich would do if he could get his hands on Porzingis? Porzingis has the chance to be the best player in basketball. I do not trust the Knicks with a commodity as precious as Porzingis'

Nevertheless, a trade for Porzingis looks incredibly unlikely before the February trade deadline, so we will most likely have to wait until the summer to see how this all plays out.
