NBA Trade Rumours: 3 Point Guards that the New York Knicks should target
The current NBA season has once again been rough for the New York Knicks. They entered the season having failed to reach the playoffs in more than half a decade, and things have once again failed to improve on the court. The New York team has lost nine of its last ten games, and as we approach the halfway point of the 18/19 season, the Knicks hold a dismal record of 10-30.
With the Knicks already way out of playoff contention, the franchise has turned its attention to building a team for the 19/20 NBA season. It is widely believed that the organization is targeting All-Star free agents such as Kevin Durant, although the roster still needs to improve in areas such as the point guard position.
In recent years, the Knicks have failed to find a permanent point guard, and the team's current pool of guards are both inexperienced and inconsistent. So here we will assess three different guards that the New York Knicks should target in 2019.
#3 Dennis Smith Jr.
Marc Stein and the New York Times last month reported that the Dallas Mavericks were considering a trade for Dennis Smith Jr., which was a major development as Smith was one of the best newcomers of the 17/18 NBA season.
After being selected with the 9th overall pick by the Mavericks, the 21-year-old averaged 15.2 points, 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. While Smith has been outshined by Luka Doncic this season, the young guard has still continued to improve, and Smiths field goal percentage has drastically improved.
The 21-year-old is still undoubtedly an exciting prospect, and if the rumours of his availability are true, the Knicks should explore a trade by including the likes of Tim Hardaway Jr.
