The new brow in town, Anthony Davis
It looked ridiculous when Reid Coffman, (a University of Kentucky fan and a business owner) bought the “Fear The Brow” trademark in November 2011. Little did the world know that the following year, he would be negotiating in thousands/millions for the rights to the phrase. The story and the legend of Anthony Davis are growing and the best part is, it has just started.
The 6-10 PF/C drafted No 1 in 2012 out of University of Kentucky is set to take the league by storm. If you have not watched Davis play, think Tim Duncan with an unlimited shooting range. That’s right. Davis hit a buzzer beating 3 pointer over Kevin Durant to win a game against Thunder last year. There are not many 6-10 guys around the league for whom the coach will draw a similar play. Although Kevin Durant is as tall as AD, he plays small forward for OKC and has a completely different body.
If you do not agree with us; we suggest that you speak to the fantasy basketball experts and enquire why AD is the No 1 fantasy pick across all fantasy formats and leagues. Davis averaged 24.4 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 2.9 bpg, 1.5spg while shooting 53.5% FG, 80.5% FT. These are the dream numbers for a Center / Forward/ Guard. This season he is going to be better and that ridicules the statisticians, what more can he do?
The New Orleans Pelicans, that’s right PELICANS which baffles me every time. Apparently, the state bird of Louisiana is a Pelican hence the name. I wish New Orleans get its original name back: New Orleans Jazz. The bourbon street, the Louisiana barbecue and the Jazz music makes the flavor for Mardi grass or the St. Patrick’s Day. The team should continue to do their good work in putting a championship team around AD. I like what they are doing; they have appointed Alvin Gentry as the head coach. He is one of the gifted offensive minds in the game. And fresh of a championship season, it is interesting to see what he can do at New Orleans.
Davis has won an NCAA title at Kentucky so he will show up in big games. He possesses the talent and grit to play in any situation. Although he lost the first playoff series 0-4 to the eventual champions Golden state Warriors, he anchored his team with an epic individual highlight reel. The next step for AD is to take his team deep into playoffs. With a healthy team and an experienced coach, he should have set high goals for himself.
Davis signed a humongous $145 million over 5 years deal, the richest recorded NBA deal so far. He will be there and there is no doubt that he will do all he can for the team. During the last year playoffs, Davis became the first player in 40 years to average 30 points, 10 rebounds in a player’s first series. The other players who achieved similar feat are Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Bob McAdoo. We have greatness amidst us and its time we paid attention to a team outside Texas in South West division.
Anthony Davis is ready for a historic run this season and this may be the start of Anthony Davis era.
