What is the format for the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup?
The NBA shared the new schedule for the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup earlier this week. It will start on Nov. 12 and be called "Cup Nights." Cup Nights will go on for four Tuesdays and three Fridays until Dec. 3. Every team in each group will play four games (two home games and two away games) against their group opponents.
The knockout rounds (quarterfinals) will be in a single-elimination format and begin on Dec. 10 and 11. This round will feature eight teams only and will have three group winners and one wild card team for each conference. The semifinals and championship at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will follow shortly after.
According to the NBA, the 22 teams that won't qualify for the quarterfinals will have two regular-season games. The games will be played on Dec. 12 or 13 and Dec. 15 or 16. The teams that will lose in the quarterfinals will play each other in a regular-season format on Dec. 12, 13, 15 and 16.
Last season, the inaugural NBA in-season tournament was well-received by fans. The Lakers took home the first-ever cup after defeating the Indiana Pacers in the final. LeBron James joined Anthony Davis, Tyrese Haliburton, Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo in the All-Tournament Team.
