"5th Curry ring run is over" - NBA fans fret over Warriors GM being unfazed by potential break up of Big 3 after Klay Thompson rumors
NBA fans didn't like Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.'s latest comment on Klay Thompson's future with the team. Earlier, it was reported that the team had taken their initial two-year, $48 million offer off the table since Klay was looking for a three-year deal.
The Athletic's Tim Kawakami asked Dunleavy Jr. about Thompson's future with the Warriors and potentially breaking the 'Big 3.'
“I probably don’t think about it like that,” Dunleavy Jr. said. “I just think about it as [the person in] the decision-making role, you’ve got to do what’s best for the franchise one way or the other. That’s just kinda what I signed up for. I understand the dynamics. Doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy."
Reacting to Dunleavy Jr.'s comments, some fans think that with Thompson gone, Steph Curry's hope for a fifth NBA championship is over.
"Then the 5th curry ring run is over," a fan wrote.
"They won’t see another ring w/o em," wrote another fan.
However, some fans wrote that they hate the Warriors' new GM.
"Oh I’m about to hate this guy Mike," wrote a fan.
"Dawg a weirdo," another fan wrote.
Some restless Warriors fans also asked Dunleavy Jr. to talk less and make a big move, like bringing a player like Paul George in return.
"Then make a damn move and get Curry some help," a fan wrote.
"Mike, stop talking about it and do something already. You have missed so many opportunities with your paralysis of managing this team," another fan wrote.
However, some fans supported Dunleavy Jr.'s decision to put the team first. A fan urged him to trade Draymond Green as well.
"Great to hear it. Klay has no leverage. Please put Moneygreen on the table as well," a fan wrote.
NBA Insider says Mavericks and Klay Thompson have “mutual interest”
With each passing day, Klay Thompson’s future with the Golden State Warriors is getting more and more uncertain. Right after the Warriors lost the play-in game against the Sacramento Kings, Thompson’s name was thrown into the trade talk.
Thompson has consistently been linked to the Orlando Magic since he scored zero points in the Warriors' loss.
In another development, according to Marc Stein, the four-time NBA champion and the Dallas Mavericks share a mutual interest.
“[There is a] strong mutual interest between Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks,” Marc Stein reported in his latest newsletter.
The Dallas Mavericks reached the NBA Finals this season. Despite the loss, they will again enter next season as one of the favorites to come out of the West. If the team can add Thompson, they will become an instant favorite to come out of the conference.
Klay Thompson's output in Dallas is more likely to increase. Unlike the Dubs, Thompson won't need to create his own shots in the game. With Luka Doncic on his roster, Thompson can just shoot 3s and do what he is best at.
