7x NBA champion foresees Victor Wembanyama being linked to Lakers soon after Luka Doncic rumors emerge
After Luka Doncic was linked to the LA Lakers, as per The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor, Robert Horry now envisions Victor Wembanyama to be the next one. The seven-time NBA champion shared on the latest episode of "Big Shot Bob Podcast" that it has been common for stars to be connected to the Lakers and the Spurs center wouldn't be any different.
Wembanyama was drafted first overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA draft and is expected to be the cornerstone of the franchise moving forward. This is due to his incredible potential on both ends of the floor. However, Horry pointed out a scenario where the big man could feel displeased with his situation in San Antonio.
"You always hear anybody that the next star ... is always going to be connected to the Lakers," Horry said. "... Now it's Luka's turn. At some point of time down the line, hell, it's going to be Wemby. Give it two, three seasons especially if the Spurs aren't doing anything or Wemby may not be 'happy,' you going to see his name connected to the Lakers."
LeBron James is already playing in the final years of his NBA career and the Lakers are facing questions about who will be the next face of the franchise aside from Anthony Davis. So potentially having Luka Doncic isn't a bad way to go about building toward the future.
Acquiring Victor Wembanyama would be an intriguing move for the Lakers considering the kind of pitch or package they have to prepare and present to him.
Last season, Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points (46.5% shooting, including 32.5% from beyond the arc), 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.6 blocks per game.
Luka Doncic praised Victor Wembanyama and his untapped potential at the professional level
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is no stranger to going up against elite players in the NBA. It made him appreciate what he saw in Victor Wembanyama in the process, as per ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
"It's pretty crazy what he does on the court," Doncic said. "... No, the things he does for that length, it's unbelievable the way he moves, the way he handles the ball, shoots the ball, and obviously the blocking. So, I've been watching, and he's an amazing player."
Listed at 7-foot-4 and playing the center position, Victor Wembanyama has the jumper and low-post scoring going for him with further room for improvement. Aside from his offensive game, he is already regarded as one of the best defenders in the league by using his size well and his ability to stay disciplined against perimeter scorers.
