7X NBA Champion Robert Horry makes feelings known about Lakers' 2nd seed chances

With the win against the Washington Wizards, the LA Lakers maintained their sixth seed in the Western Conference. For former Laker and 7x NBA champion Robert Horry, it was a good sign that the Purple and Gold have managed to be in the midfield as the NBA 2024-25 season approaches the halfway mark.

Speaking on Spectrum SportsNet, Horry dissected the game against Washington, while also grading LA for their performance in their recent stretch of games.

"I think if they keep playing consistently, they can move up. Because the West, if you look at everybody, they are two to three games away. If we get a winning streak, you are right at the two or three spots. I may give them a C+ right now, but I like where they are trending."

The Lakers capitalized on LeBron James' ninth triple-double of the season. The four-time NBA champion scored 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and contributed 13 assists, helping LA to a comprehensive 111-88 win over the struggling Wizards. The win improved them to 23-18, good enough for sixth place.

The LA Lakers can make a surge but will need some assists in the form of trades

The LA Lakers can make a surge, but they will need more assistance coming in, as the current roster is limited with options on both ends of the floor. LA has made it clear that they are on the lookout for a center and a 3-and-D wing who could elevate them from being a playoff team to title contenders.

The team will also be wary of how injuries to either LeBron James or Anthony Davis could derail their season. Without their superstars, LA lacks the offensive and defensive firepower to advance further.

At the time of writing, LA is expected to stand pat at the trade deadline or make smaller, precision moves instead of a big-name trade. Only time will tell if they can manage to acquire pieces that could make them title contenders.
