"A $50K night in the club cost him $39M": Ja Morant massive contract fallout surfaces in wake of scandals

Ja Morant is one of the best NBA players at the moment. The Memphis Grizzlies guard is very skilled and his electrifying moves make him very entertaining to watch.

While Morant is an exceptional basketball player, his off-court behavior has been problematic. Due to all the controversies that he's been involved in, the 23-year-old superstar could lose at least $39 million from his contract with the Grizzlies.

The 2-time All-Star also had his Powerade ad taken down, although Coca-Cola has not yet terminated his contract.

Ja Morant will likely lose around $39 million due to controversy

The troubled star agreed to a contract extension with the Memphis Grizzlies last summer. The extension includes five more years on his contract and up to $233 million.

However, Ja Morant's contract with Memphis includes incentives that boost his payday. If he makes an All-NBA team, he will receive $233 million from his contract. Without this achievement, he will $194 million over the 5-year period.

Morant is averaging 27.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game in the 2022-23 season. He's also led the Memphis Grizzlies to the second-best record in the Western Conference.

If it wasn't for all the controversies he's been involved in, Morant would have been a lock for an All-NBA team. However, there is a good chance that he won't return in the regular season, which would make his All-NBA selection very difficult.

NBA fans react to Morant losing millions

Many NBA fans have made fun of the situation that Morant has found himself in. While he will still receive a lot of money for his services, a loss of $39 million is massive.

Considering that all of this happened after the strip club controversy, a lot of fans believe that Morant should have never been there. Morant reportedly spent $50,000 on tips, but he ended up losing much more.

@NateDuncanNBA Damn! A $50K night in the club cost him $39M. That's insane.

Unsurprisingly, several social media users posted an image of Morant in the strip club and all the money that surrounded him.

@NateDuncanNBA If you actually squint hard enough that’s not $50K on the ground of the club that Ja Morant threw around it’s $39 Million. https://t.co/IpiRcN2ss7

Losing a wallet at a strip club is bad, but losing millions because of the visit is definitely much worse!

@NateDuncanNBA God damn I thought losing my wallet at the strip club was bad....... let my man live

The talented superstar will still make nearly $200 million, which is more than enough to tip strippers. However, one has to wonder if he will ever visit a strip club again.

@NateDuncanNBA Still enough to make it rain in the club.

Some Twitter users find it weird that Ja Morant is getting punished for breaking no laws.

@NateDuncanNBA Pretty insane considering no laws were broken and nobody was hurt

While some NBA fans sympathize with the Grizzlies star, they also admit that he should be responsible for his actions.

@NateDuncanNBA i’m not rooting on the downfall of any young black man but nobody forced bro to flash a weapon on IG live, he gotta chin whatever comes his way
@NateDuncanNBA Nobody fault but his own

Morant is having a fantastic season and there is a chance that he will still make an All-NBA team.

@NateDuncanNBA He should still make third team at a minimum. I can't think of 3 point guards to put over him. Unless the media has a vendetta against him

The league has a lot of talented guards who could make an All-NBA team instead of the 2-time All-Star, including Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

If Morant doesn't return to action soon, another player will likely be voted instead of him.

@Boobah_ @NateDuncanNBA Luka, SGA, Mitchell, Curry, Jaylen Brown, Fox, Lillard, Kyrie (but media hates him), maybe Edwards.

All guards who are playing well w/o controversies. There would be no question Ja makes it if not for his recent issues. But I’m afraid he may have just cost himself 38m.

One Twitter user called Morant's strip club entertainment the most expensive dance in the league's history.

@NateDuncanNBA Arguably the most expensive dance in the history, doubt anyone can break that record in the foreseeable future.

Considering that Ja Morant recently entered counseling in Florida, it is unlikely that he will return to action anytime soon. His team is currently in the second spot in the West, but only one game ahead of the third-placed Sacramento Kings.
