"A guy that played the game the right way": Rookie Steph Curry once explained what he wanted to be in 10 years

Steph Curry had simple goals when he started his NBA journey back in 2009. He has since accomplished a lot, thrusting him to the pantheon of the all-time greats.

The Golden State Warriors celebrated the amazing journey of 'Chef Curry' on X, formerly Twitter. The team's official handle posted a throwback video of him as a rookie talking about the kind of player he wanted to be 10 years down the line.

A then-21-year-old Curry said:

"Ten years, I want to be known as a true professional. A guy that played the game the right way. Hopefully still in the league and still effective in the league as not that many people that last double-digit years. So, it starts now of building a foundation for later down the road."

With Steph Curry in tow, the Warriors has experienced a golden era, winning four NBA titles (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022) and gaining unparalleled popularity not only Stateside but also around the world.

The former Davidson star has also built a legendary career in his 15 years in the NBA to date, particularly as a shooter. He set various league records, including most three-pointers made in NBA history, which currently stands at 3,747.

Steph Curry signs contract extension with the Golden State Warriors

Steph Curry is contracted to the Golden State Warriors till the 2026-27 season after he signed an extension on Thursday.

The Warriors made the announcement of the extension deal, that will see 'Chef Curry' be paid $62.6 million in the final year of his current contract, becoming the first player in NBA history to earn more than $60 million in a single season.

Back in 2022, he signed a four-year, $215-million deal, maintaining his standing as the NBA's highest paid player since 2018. The contract extension, meanwhile, will take Steph Curry's career earnings to $537 million, as per Spotrac, joining LeBron James (LA Lakers) and Paul George (Philadelphia 76ers) in the elite $500-million club.

Curry, 36, was selected seventh overall by the Warriors in the 2009 NBA Draft out of Davidson. He has since become a four-time NBA champion, two-time league MVP and 10-time All-Star in Golden State.

He has career averages of 24.8 points, 6.4 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals. Curry is the Warriors's all-time leader in games played (956), total points (23,668), assists (6,119), three-pointers made (3,747) and steals (1,473).

Last season, Steph Curry had another All-Star season, averaging 26.4 points, 5.1 assists and 4.5 steals in 74 games. The Warriors, however, failed to make it to the playoffs.

This summer, he was part of Team USA, winning his first Olympic gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
