Adrian Wojnarowski bluntly reacts to front offices calling him with scoops after retirement

Former ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski has retired from sports journalism and expressed being at peace with his career decision. However, he said team sources continue giving him scoops every now and then.

The sportswriter, popularly known for his breaking news on X (formerly Twitter) usually referred to as "Woj bombs," shared how life has been in retirement so far in his guest appearance on the "Eye on College Basketball" podcast on Saturday.

Asked by podcast host Matt Norlander if he was still receiving scoops from his former sources, Wojnarowski recalled one occasion where he was offered a scoop and turned down:

"Yes, and [I was not] even remotely tempted," the former insider said. "There was one I said, 'Fellas, it's over.' I think my response was 'Congratulations, but I don't give a s**t."

Adrian Wojnarowski, 55, announced his retirement in September via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He said he was leaving to take the general manager job of the men's basketball program of his alma mater, St. Bonaventure.

His decision effectively ended a journalistic journey that started 37 years ago, with the last seven years spent with ESPN.

He has since been replaced by fellow topnotch NBA insider Shams Charania at ESPN.

Adrian Wojnarowski says he knew it was time to leave

Adrian Wojnarowski's decision to retire from the sports news industry came as a huge surprise to many. For him, however, he knew it was time to leave and move on to the next chapter of his life and career.

He shared this in his announcement of his retirement, highlighting that while it was a great run spanning four decades as a journalist, other more meaningful things beckon, saying:

"This craft transformed my life... I understand the commitment required in my role and it's an investment that I'm no longer driven to make. Time isn't in endless supply and I want to spend mine in ways that are more personally meaningful."

He went on to thank the countless people who were with him through his journey:

"I leave with overwhelming gratitude for countless mentors and colleagues, subjects and stories, readers and viewers. No one has benefitted more than me from the belief, trust and generosity of others."

Through his run, Adrian Wojnarowski was known for his "Woj bombs" of breaking news, including the suspension of the 2019-20 season because of COVID, the death of Kobe Bryant, details of the foiled Chris Paul-to-LA Lakers trade, the deal that sent Paul George from the OKC Thunder to the LA Clippers from the OKC Thunder, the trade that sent Anthony Davis to the LA Lakers from New Orleans and more.
